It's with a heavy heart that i have to be the bearer of sad news for all you melonfans. For the past two years, the band has struggled to maintain our fan base and touring and recording profile. Without the support of a major label promotion and touring financial advantages, it has become a diminshing scenario for Cravin' Melon. Doug has decided that it's time to hang up the hat and pursue other things. That being said, the band has decided that without Doug, it just wouldn't be Cravin' Melon. Therefore we are annoucing the band's retirement effective Mid April. We are going to try to hit every market that we can between now and April 15, so keep and eye on the Dates Page of the website and come on out to bid the band farewell. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank ALL of our fans throughout the world, from the bottom of our hearts. It was you, the fans that kept us going over the years. We'd also like to thank Scotty and Keith, the the street team, and all of the family members that have supported us over the past 8 years. We had a good run at it, we made a lot of folks happy and we had some great shows along the way. We're sorry to see it come to a close, but that's where we are. Cravin's music has touched a lot of folks. Let's remember all the good times fondly, play the CDS and be thankful we had a chance to do this.

Well, HEADMELON, that game really sucked!!! But look at it like this - NOBODY can beat Duke three times in one year. So that means we win AT Carolina AND the ACC tournament. Now sports aside, I have MELON on my mind. Can you give some information on the shows at Cats Cradle and Ziggys. What is the cover charge? Who are the opening bands? What time do the opening bands go on? and what time does MELON go on? Thanks!
just wondering

Just want to let you guys know that you have a huge fanbase in this area, and hope that you will be coming back to Sir Richard's in danville before May. You guys rock and deserve to have your quality music played.

Devastated to learn that Cravin Melon will soon be no more. Have followed the band for about five years, but only via your CD’s, having spent my time in the UK, China and Malaysia over that period. Really had hoped to get to the States some day and see you play live. I still have the CD’s however. All the best to all of you in the future. Possibly you most widely travelled fan Terry.

Y'all have underestimated the recruiting skills of the Northern Melonseeds... In the last 2 minutes (since sending out a survey e-mail), I have received 4 e-mails from PMB fans who want y'all to come up here... one of whom would be willing to travel up to 4 HOURS, with a bunch of his friends, to come see Cravin' Melon one last time in the Northeast... Better reconsider and start planning a road trip... I bet we could sell out, if someone actually gave a damn about the fans freezing their butts off up here (sorry for the bitterness, but we're starting to take it personally)... BABES PAGE UPDATE - I don't know why the pix aren't showing up... it works fine for me... I'll rewrite the code over our spring break (in 3 weeks) when I find a moment to breathe. SEND ME YOUR PIX GALS!!! Sigh...

You guys can't quit, I have followed you loyally since you began. I have not missed a show at Ziggy's in Winston Salem or Rafters in Boone. Also some of you guys know my sister and her husband, Randy and Christy Brownlow from Salisbury. You can not give up and close down because one guy calls it quits, you can replace a guitar player but you will never replace "Cravin Melon". Give youselves the shot you deserve. Your really have a large following, in the Carolinas if no where else. I hate to think I will not have your next great cd coming out to always look forward to. I have all of your cd's and I was hoping to keep getting them. Please reconsider!!! Okay, once again, can we all not just get along and have some fun and laugh like hell. The whole calendar thing is to raise some $ to get the boys up to north pole. It's called joining melon forces and supporting your fellow melonseeds in getting a final show too. I think I speak for all the babes of the melonpatch/calendar when I say this is to be FUN, not degrading. For the love of melon, we're not getting pornographic here (sorry to all the sickos who thought they would get to see melon-babe skin). So, for those of you who don't appeciate the babes of the melonpatch and their deep inner beauty, then just BE QUIET, and don't buy a calendar! Or maybe you'd like to get some guts and sign your name to your post next time, just a suggestion! Remember the other golden rule: "If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all". Now, everyone go along and have a happy day!

Chasing Amy's Last Message: Yes, the Captain must agree with Amy (go figure)...besides the whole idea for the calendar was to give the guys & gals in the north a final show, not to introduce the next Playmate of the Year! Still, if the offer is on the table to fly CM to the chilly states, I'd gladly pay my own way. Oh, and just a little bit of info for those who've not met the likes of Amy and comany, well, let's just say that you need to do so...they're all quite attractive--each one with her own set of fine attributes! 1) 16-month calendar is a great idea... that'll give plenty of time to shoot the pix and put it together in time for Sept 2001. 2) Resh - what would a compilation of snapshots be without your photo credits?! YAY! 3) Live CD idea is awesome! I'm in - let me know how much $$ needs to be donated. 4) Melongeek - I washed the babydoll-T (had some dirt on it from the mail) and then it accidently went in the dryer... now it's a MICRO babydoll-T... we'll see if I can actually squeeze it on and send you a pic. 5) Head Melon... I'm not being overconfident... and EVERY game gives me heartburn! Besides, what would the Carolina-Dook rivalry be without a little trash-talk?! We're going to have to place a little bet, eh? 6) To my Maryland-based friends who think the Ravens have a chance today... sorry! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!! :)

Wow, since my computer broke down, I've got a lot of catching up to do on here. First of all, I will not be in any calendar. But I would like to help out in the effort for a Northern show. So I volunteer for being the photographer to anyone who needs me. As for the LIVE CD at Freebird... DUH! Of course it would be a great idea. I would only have two request: Pretend (face it, LIVE this song is amazing!) and Someone (hearts melting, sweetie, hearts melting).

personally "squeeze me" is my favorite album, and to have another live album would be awesome. i think that the other albums are great, but don't capture the essence of melon the way it is captured when live. the energy, emotion and esp. the audience, don't come through on the studio albums the way the do live. so i say go out with a bang, and do one final recording, and blow us all away!

Ok, now Rick Campbell from the Freebird Cafe' has made the suggestion of another live recording. The Cafe has the equipment to do this and would be the answer to no being able to find anymore "Squeeze Me" cd's. What is everyone's opion of this, come on let the boys know what we want. I think it would be great, the Cafe has a good sound system and awsome acoustics. Hell, "Thin Lizzy" just played there and "Buddy Miles" is playing on tuesday. Who's for a farewell CD.........

I've got an idea on this calendar thing. First of all, no calendar is complete without twins. And the only female twins that I know from the Melonpatch are Brooke and Bonnie. We can make this a 16-month calendar seeing as how 12 places are filled. That leaves 3 months (the twins share a month -we'll say the first September). Cara, Jules, Resh, or Limegirl get the first October, November and December.

I find it hard to believe that I will not be able to attend a concert from these guys after April. I have been a fan/friend since the beginning. My lastest boyfriend and I first saw Craven Melon at Ziggy's in Winston-Salem, NC. I will never forget that night. They attended the HOO HAH!! by 98.7 THE POINT in 1999 and rocked the place to the ground. I had the fortunate experience of meeting the band when they played the Carolina Theatre in Greensboro last year. They guys are so down to earth, not "celebrities" as most bands act. They welcomed us before the show and actually hung out with us after the show. IT WAS AWESOME !!! I will miss them terribly and wish they would reconsider their decision. Life is not based on how much $$ you make but on how happy you are doing what you do best. These guys play and sing music best and I hope they reconsider their decision. Either way, I have been and will always be a Craven Melon fan!!

Well, the Captain made some subtle nominations, but, alas, none of the male Melonheads have had the guts to nominate their favorite Melonseeds. The calendar WILL sell because it'll be a Cravin' Melon collector's item and it'll be filled with ALL of the "Babes" of the Melonpatch (maybe take that December group-shot at the last show...) Most of you only know us by our names/e-mail addresses - but perhaps some of the men that frequent the 'patch will vouch for the fact that all these ladies really ARE BABES! You guys have been awsome over the years. I first heard y'all at Center City Fest in Charlotte about four years ago, and I have been following you ever since. The new album is so great, it is going to be sad not being able to anticipate new shows to go to. My girlfriend and I have made it to about three of your shows in Charlotte and one in Boone this past semester. She's not as big into dancing as I am, but we always have a blast at your shows, and dance till we fall down. Your music always picks me up and your live shows are so much fun, we will truley miss your unforgetable zest for music and love for the stage. Your audiences could feel the energy you guys had and it affected everyone there. We will be at Rafters(feb1) and Ziggy's on feb3, and as many more shows as we can, and definetly the last. You guys rock. Good luck in the future and remember, your music will always live on.

OK, Amy just IM'd me and sent me to the Patch regarding this calendar thing. Sorry I've lost touch lately, but I can never get to a computer anymore. I'll volunteer for either February (since it's my B-day month) or July when the "T" is the Sweetest :) Don't know about that Baby T thing though - may have quite the opposite effect. I'd love to wear my cowboy hat though. For some reason, I've grown quite fond of wearing it. Oh, and finally got my Snoop pictures developed :0 - I'll bring the one I had blown up to the Cat's Cradle or Ziggy's show. Cam, it'll be an addition to your scrapbook. Don't forget 2/24. I'd call in dead but that would never work b/c my mom works here too. DAMN! Okay, so the flag idea is most appropriate, but be careful which flag you choose b/c if it's the Ga Confederate Flag you're setting yourself up for possible tomatoes flying at you or worse. Ya know that's this biggest issue around here right now anyway! Okay so, I'll be in touch and thanks again for supporting the calendar and hopefully by Monday we'll have all slots filled up and we'll be ready to go! Have a happy day!

Amy, I LOVE the flute idea. Damn that was a good one! And you couldn't pick a better b-ball team. Now if only I can get Hauss to quit pulling for the Puke, oops Duke boys the world might be a better place, but seeing how that's a longshot I guess I will just have to keep sending him the Forte postcards! Okay, so I see your point on the whole Blossom thing & that I need to be a spring month, so I will take your advice and move my beautimous blossom-self to May! Then everyone can start calling us M&M! HA! HA! HA! I know I just dorked out w/ the whole M&M idea but ya know it is tax season and my mind is a bit overworked! Okay, so it's official: We have Amy comitted to March, Jenn will take on May and Christy will conquer October! I am keeping notes of who's doing what, so once we get 9 more awesome volunteers we can get this thing done, sold, and the boys can make the trip up north. Whew-hoo! LET'S GO GIRLS!

Captain, I already volunteered... maybe instead of a winter month in my snowsuit I should be "March" in my CAROLINA BLUE (how 'BOUT them Tar Heels?!) for March-Madness BABY!! I could be pictured with my flute and the caption could read "This one time, at band camp..." ;) BTW, Melongeek, I just got my babydoll-T in the mail and "Cravin' Melon" is written in Carolina blue on it... I'd consider modeling it, but only after some serious time in the sun. (Dr. B is pasty white this time of year.) THANKS FOR Y'ALL's SUPPORT TO SEND THE GUYS (& anyone else willing to road-trip) UP NORTH!!! Who's better than the Melonpatch folk??????? :c)

Okay Captain and Melongeek, I surrender, I will help out w/ the calendar, but only b/c the proceeds are going toward the trip up north. Oh, and I get to be a Sweet "Georgia" Blossom lying in a bed of Silk Sunflowers preferrably in the month of, oh say, December, drinking a martini from the Melon Martini Lounge! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Okay Amy, now it's your turn to state your case!!!

Captain's Idea: Melongeek, I have asked myself the same question...how can I get them to do it? Well, desperatetimes call for desperate measures, and it seems that the ladies of the Melonpatch are eager to help. I figure wecan get a dozen or so to grace the calendar, and we can sell the calendar to make money for the trip up north. All we (as males of the 'Patch) have to do is to pick a dozen...what a freakin' idea!?! --The Captain

The times that I did get to see your shows at The Elbow Room in Columbia, yal put on one of the best.I was always geared more towards seeing Driven'n'Crying or maybe Uncle Mingo, but I knew if I saw Cravin'Melon in the Free Times, it would be a much more exciting show. Good Luck in the other careers. If you had the backing(money), to hang out longer, would you?

Also check http://www.music-exchange.com and click on "special orders" (they know where to find rare titles and will email you back if they're able to find it somewhere). Maybe check http://www.silverdisc.com (they have Red Clay Harvest) or call your favorite local music stores (the small ones)... they usually have contacts and can find what you're looking for (that's how I got my copy of "Squeeze Me" all the way up here in NY - a store hunted down a used copy for me somewhere). GOOD LUCK!

mercury HAS copies of SQUEEZE ME and RED CLAY HARVEST.....they don't have the SQUEEZE ME title "in their system" for sale....they JUST put RCH back in "the system" and you can buy it as i posted a few days ago at www.getmusic.com go to the GENRE BAR and select ROCK and the put CRAVIN' MELON in the search field...it will take you to a page to buy it...I TOLD the guy that the band was breaking up and to expect orders...if enough RCH's move, he'll believe me and put SM back in "the system" - good luck... I only have one copy of SQ me.,....

Better order NOW since it seems as though the Melon faithful are buying every last copy for their great-grandchildren to listen to!! Hope that helps some of you... Who would have ever imagined that the Captain would be a cop out? We have one nominee and one volunteer, but there are twelve months in a year. If each of the band members chooses one girl & The Headmelon, Scotty and Keith get one pick too; then the Melonpatch must generate four girls. Or I guess there could be more than one girl in each month . . .
Is everyone in the Melonpatch female?
USA - Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at 20:36:46 (EST)
Dear Southern Melonseed with the bright idea, I can't take my 220 students out of school for such a road trip... and I really hope they get to experience Melon at least once in their lives. Don't get me wrong... if we could, we Northern Melonseeds would rent our own van and hit ALL of the final Melon shows together. But, we all have jobs and other responsibilities that make such long trips virtually impossible. PLUS, after the night in NYC after the Makor show (y'all are trying to kill me), driving to Danville, VA (and having to give my own performance on 1 1/2 hrs sleep), the Philly weekend and subsequent CAR ACCIDENT and the NEW YEAR'S EVE FLIGHT-CANCELLING BLIZZARD AND GREAT-LUGGAGE CAPER... sorry, but they owe me... big time. Plus, they lost the Head Melon's Christmas present... (where is Mr. Colon now?) I might have to hold the flannel Pooh-Bear boxer shorts hostage until our demands are met (and YOU know who you are!)...

The Captain's looking to get himself in trouble again... :P I'd gladly pose with my shovel in my snowsuit & moon boots next to the 3-foot pile of frozen snow drift that was blocking my front door the other night... JENN - I think I only ordered the one CD for Cynde, but I might have ordered 2 (can't remember). I already own one - so if 2 arrive in the mail, I'll let you know. I spoke to the AWARE dude on the phone today & he said a bunch of people were ordering it (look what I've started!) but now they're sold out - sorry! Anyway, when the mail comes, I'll email you. We'll try to find it somewhere else (HEAD MELON - WHAT DID MERCURY SAY ABOUT SENDING SOME MORE COPIES???).

Captain's Choice?: Well, I guess I did bring the subject up about the Gals of the Melonpatch calendar...or maybe Views of Honeydews...but I cannot start the nomination process on the grounds that it may incriminate me. Still, I can imagine a few NC ladies would make my list of nominations--and of course, NY--but I must decline. Hey now, The Captain and Intrigued posted a valid question that should have kept the fighting out of the guestbook and no one is providing an answer. In honor of the Carolina Cup, I nominate the Lime Girl to be "Miss April".
I guess I'll start.
USA - Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at 14:33:59 (EST)
Brandy, why shouldn't you put some sort of description with those pictures, even if they have been submitted by others? Not everyone viewing them will automatically know when or where they were taken, unless they were there. And FYI, don't get too high and mighty. Your site ain't all that and a bag of chips. Anyone with half a brain can copy & paste text, files, etc. from other sites and upload them to their own. You couldn't be original?
