It's with a heavy heart that i have to be the bearer of sad news for all you melonfans. For the past two years, the band has struggled to maintain our fan base and touring and recording profile. Without the support of a major label promotion and touring financial advantages, it has become a diminshing scenario for Cravin' Melon. Doug has decided that it's time to hang up the hat and pursue other things. That being said, the band has decided that without Doug, it just wouldn't be Cravin' Melon. Therefore we are annoucing the band's retirement effective Mid April. We are going to try to hit every market that we can between now and April 15, so keep and eye on the Dates Page of the website and come on out to bid the band farewell. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank ALL of our fans throughout the world, from the bottom of our hearts. It was you, the fans that kept us going over the years. We'd also like to thank Scotty and Keith, the the street team, and all of the family members that have supported us over the past 8 years. We had a good run at it, we made a lot of folks happy and we had some great shows along the way. We're sorry to see it come to a close, but that's where we are. Cravin's music has touched a lot of folks. Let's remember all the good times fondly, play the CDS and be thankful we had a chance to do this.

Some people are just cowards and have no shame. To say something you are not able to claim is one of them. Take the time to examine yourself and realize that it just wastes time and should not be done. Thank God there are still honest people in this world- ... and who arent afraid to claim what they say and stand up for what they believe in!!!

Dear "reality-ville", and everyone else, (1) At least I ALWAYS sign my name to my posts. (2) As I recall, it was Dick who wanted the band to play in NYC... and it had something to do with record labels, not their fans and friends. I hopped my broke butt on an airplane to NC 3 weeks ago because I knew they wouldn't be back here. FYI - that April 20th show at the Lion's Den that's been mentioned... I have a wedding and WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN THERE ANYWAY! (3) I just offered to help the Head Melon by organizing all the friends who live up here to call the venues he wanted to book because he wasn't having any success. (4) New York is THE market for music. (5) COLLAPSIS was my favorite band. (6) It's spelled "FAREWELL"... no "i". (7) I'm not selfish. Anyone who's ever met me will vouch for that. (8) I apologize if anyone has ever taken any of my posts in a bad way... when you start messing with my team, I get upset. Go Tar Heels! (9) There are few bands as talented as Cravin' Melon - and I have yet to meet more loving and selfless people than those 5... and likely never will. (10) Just when I thought I was having a bad day, thanks for anonymously attacking me... and all the rest of the Northerners who have supported Cravin' Melon for the last 8 years. BTW - at last count I think we had almost $1000 pledged towards van rental... in a weekend. Oh well. Hugs to everyone, except you "reality-ville"... I retire.

Unless I missed the point this "fairwell tour" is for Cravin Melon to give the MARKETS that have supported through the years one last chance the see them. It is also not feasible form a monetary stand point for them to come to new york and this has been stated. At this time I think all CM FANS should look beyond theirselves and just be happy we got to know such a great band, I guarantee this is much harder on them then it is us and we should respect that and not be so selfish. When you find your new favorite band I hope they will better suit you but I bet they won't be as good as CRAVIN MELON!!

Update from my & Cynde's "WTFAW?!" weekend in NYC... I'm finally home and BeantownJ is still on the bus back to Melon-less Massachusetts... All the PMB boys say hello to y'all... we threw down MANY beers (and shots of unknown pink-colored stuff) with them until the tour bus had to leave for Ohio and then had some more drinks with the girlfriends/wives/inlaws left behind... they had a great set... Hammerstein Ballroom was SOLD OUT and the place was packed when they took the stage! There was some talk about them donating toward the fix-the-van-fund, but by then I'm not sure they even knew where they were anymore! Sister Hazel totally rocked - it was my first time seeing them live. I think they were auditioning to be my new favorite band. They're all really nice guys too! I haven't seen the CBS show yet to see if we were on it (which ruled, btw) since we were still sleeping/recovering from the festivities. Vertical Horizon was disappointing, but the night overall was awesome. Hello to my new friend Heather... how can we get on that list again to BD? Hee hee... Christy, we drank margaritas during Thursday night's blizzard on your behalf. Thanks for all YOUR help... and also to everyone willing to donate money. That's the best part of all... all the incredible wonderful loving people I've met through the Melonpatch. Whenever this ends, I hope we'll still have a place to catch up with each other. I hope everyone had as great a weekend as Cynde & I did... but, then again, who are we? :P

Well, well, well, another fabulous show guys! The Attic was awesome! I think I had the perfect spot to listen even though that light never shut off. It always sounds best back by Mix Master Melon! I must say that I was surprised when Chad, Gary, and Rob left the stage with just Jimbo and Doug to play "Silk." I don't think I've ever heard it with such heart (yes, the tears were flowing). I think the funniest part of the evening was watching Doug chase Rob with his hat. Nope, wait, the belch! I thought it was funny anyway. Then again, I'm weird that way. "Brick House"!!!!! I don't think I've heard that song since the "The Next Move" reunion show in Spartanburg. At first I chuckled, but then I really listened, and Jimbo, hun, you sounded amazing! Oh, and Chad, you still owe me a "running lesson!" See you guys Saturday! I love you!

What happened to the plans for Melon to play at the St. Patricks Day festival in Columbia and then do a show in Columbia that night? Did they get trashed? All I see now is the show at the 3 Rivers Fest, Is that all were gonna get in Columbia? I'm not trying to complain here but the problem with festivals like this is that the band will only get an hour at most on stage, they won't even be able to do their normal show, much less a "going away" type show. Don't get me wrong, I'll be there and I'll love it but I'd like more. I realize there are challenges scheduling these last shows, just wanted you to know that Columbia would like a club show too. Thanks.

Latest word, as Amy alluded to below, is that with no VAN to travel in CM can't make the trip to NYC. Also, a certain guarantee of being able to make enough $ to make the trip worth it is necessary. Well, I think the posts below (from NON-Northern Melonseeds, I might add) attest that where there is a will, there's a way. We said before and we'll say it again--we'll do what we need to in order to get one last Cravin' Melon show up here! I think "the powers that be" underestimate the fan base up here...so please, book the April 20 date at The Lion's Den. How can yous (sorry--a south Jersey girl can't say "y'all") say no to a hugely fun party with the best fans in the world?!?! Love ya!

I had about 20 friends with me from Raleigh for a weekend in my favorite town and it got even sweeter when I found out that CM was at the Windjammer -- while I'm so heartbroken, I'm so glad that I got to introduce my friends to the band. Hey Amy, I should be getting into NY Thursday night around 6 pm and I'll give you a call. I think the Sign thing is a GREAT idea. I was thinking of making one for Jeff's b-day ( and seeing Jeff is realy broken up about the disbanning of CM) so maybe we can get Sister Hazel to help in the Cursade to get Cravin up NORTH!!! I'll give you a call when I get in. Have a CRAVIN' MELON day!

Two things, first HEAD MELON what time do the guys go on stage on April 12 at the Alive After 5. There will be a few of us down there that day and our plane leaves at 9 so I was just wondering if we could fit it in. Second and most important HEAD MELON WE NEED a show up here in the great northeast April 20th. Please hear our wishes, we'll fill that hall, we'll be there screaming, we'll do what ever we need to see it happen. Come on give us this one last show. Have a Cravin Melon filled day

I didn't hear it, but I'm sure it was the Marshal Crenshaw version of RTIFOM. He wrote it and also "Til I hear it from you" for The Ginblossoms. It's a great song, but you're right, I think we do it better. Later!

"right there in front of me" was not written by cravin' melon... it would have been nice to have heard the melon boys singing it instead. makes you appreciate all their talent (and realize just how many people out there don't have ANY).

UGH!!! During the last few minutes of "ED" tonight on NBC some crappy band was playing a cover of "right there in front of me". Hearing garbage like that makes me very appreciative of the music I've come to love and feel privy to experiencing live from Cravin' Melon over the last six years that I've been a fan. I will definitely be bringing the Alabama contingency to Charleston for the Windjammer show!! See ya'll soon!

Hey Turtle, Gouda & I might be hanging together in NYC this week... but wouldn't it be nice to have a Melon-fest on April 20th with the whole gang? Glad you're making plans Miss July!! Unfortunately, the boys think they only have like 8 fans up here (10 if you count Christy's kids!)... I think it's sad that y'all don't realize just how many of your supporters have moved North... we're getting in contact with the Clemson, U. of South Carolina, UNC, and Dook alumni clubs to find the relocated Cravin' Melon faithful. Never underestimate the power of the Northernseeds... I might be the most vocal, but I'm not alone... the greatest group of loud, obnoxious (jk) Northerners stand by my side... and I couldn't be prouder! :) Go us! Keep working hard!

Do you think that maybe Doug's decision to leave the band is because he is having trouble resolving the fact that all of these hot women are after him but it doesn't necessarily fit his true "tendencies"? Think about it.

Northernseeds, concentrate on Mercury this week and your efforts could very well pay off!! GO US! I was just reminded this week that a friend and I walked almost 3 miles to go see Cravin' Melon for the first time at Cat's Cradle in 1995... we were living behind UNC Hospitals and we walked ALL THE WAY to Carrboro just to see CM... if I only knew then what this would all lead to... :P Turtle - hope you're ok... I had an accident on Christmas Eve (on my way home from a Melon road trip of course)... be careful! Keep those hands tied to the wheel! (ha!) Miss July, I will keep you informed as the plans progress. I'm ready to stay up ALL NIGHT LONG!!!!! Shameless, Captain... Shameless! Now that I'm less sleep deprived, let me say what a FUN show at ZBS Saturday night! Matt, I second that...Chad was great w/yous guys on "Better!"
Who was the mystery "singer" during "Too Hard to Handle" with their own twisted verse? Funny stuff guys. Doug, if folks caught your ever-changing lyrics to "Space Cowboy," I guess they DO know it's all about boobies now (hey, your words last week @Ziggy's, not mine....."we've always been about big boobies...always have been...always will be..."). Personally, they don't a thing for me. *s*
Thanks for adding another AC/DC fav to your repertoire! And yes, I'll have a drink on you....what do you suggest -- jager? J/K! ;)
As for the newest Poison additions to the set list, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, a million times THANK YOU!!! Doug, I thought you sounded great on "Every Rose..." even if you guys didn't finish the whole song THIS TIME (hint, hint). CC (aka Jimbo), what can I say except, "pick up that guitar and talk to me!" WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!! Even Spike (or whatever the mohawked guy's name was) was enjoying this and the rest of the show.
Get some rest this week and I'll see you Friday night. Can I put a request for a Poison reprise, please? I'd also like to hear "Someone" and "Time It Takes" (which, btw, was requested via guestbook for ZBS, but never made it to the list). If shameless begging would increase my chances for these and a few other requests, I'm not above that either. Thanks in advance!

We need to come up with some other form of praise for such gorgeous gals (I use the term to include both inner and outer beauty). I am sorry to hear the news of your band's break-up. Your songs bring me fond memories of my years at Clemson and summers in Charleston. My college roommate and I had the best times listening to your band play. We were always the crazies up in the front row. By the way, we were pladge sisters with Heather H. Hope she is doing well. To all of you - Good luck with future endeavors. To Doug: this must have been a hard decision and I think that you are very brave to take this step and all of you are brave to face the change. I know the Charlotte date at Amos' has been changed to March 2 but Pollstar is a little behind in their listings and has the old date listed. Right below Cravin's name is Vanilla Ice, who is playing at Amos' on Feb 23 so it looks like a double-bill. Now that is a truly frightening concept. I can just hear it "Ice, tea baby". Ok, that was bad, but I found myself highly amusing for a moment! Just thought I'd share...

Well, all I gotta say is that the Head M. better be at Cat's Cradle tonight! I've got some gloating to do! And I thought Duke players were supposed to be smart. That was a pretty dumb foul that ol' Raisin Head committed at the end of the game last night :)) Anyway, I wanted to say a word or two about Great Procrastinator. I think that it's a crock of crap if record companies say the album doesn't have a hit single. I can think of at least 4 hits on that album: TGP, Silk, She Loves the Fire, and Time it Takes. Those 4 songs can beat anything else that's on radio right now. I think that record companies are too interested in an image that fits the bubble gum candy gloss pop that's out right now. The popularity of the MTV crowd with shows like TRL put imagery 1st and music in the background. It's unfortunate for people like us on the 'patch that are interested in MUSIC more than anything else, but that's the way things are.

First it was Spidermonkey. Then Uncle Mingo. And now finally Cravin Melon. I have been a fan since some of the melons were The Next Move and even Doghouse back when I was at Clemson. Why are all the good bands breaking up? Is the music industry becoming so stifling that all we are going to have left are the manufactured pop bands like the Backstreet Nsync 98 degrees Boys? There doesn't seem to much talent left in "local" live music anymore. I hate to see you guys go, and hope to catch you maybe at 5pts on the 17th and at The 'Jammer in late March. Is there gonna be a final show at TD's in Clemson?

Okay first of all, HOW BOUT THEM HEELS! I LOVE TODAY! Hey Hauss, are you as pissy as the Headmelon is today? If you two would just surrender and become the Carolina fans you know you wish you wanna be, then you wouldn't be feeling all crappy today about those sorry-ass Blue Devils losing to the one and only, that's right, say it with me, UNC TARHEELS! Okay second of all, I am now dreaming about tax files. This is bad, really bad! The only good part of the nightmare is that the files are CAROLINA blue! Amy, happy trails and hope to see you in WS! Doug, let me be the first to post that, you could shave your head bald and wear that tutu with combat boots and you'd still be the most precious thing on the planet!

There'll be a Carolina Victory, when 'cross the field our foe has fled... Cheer our team to Victory, for we are Tar Heels born and bred (RA-RA-RA)... Glory, glory U-N-C, our hearts will live with thee... FIGHT-FIGHT-FIGHT for the Blue and White are rolling to VICTORY!! :)

What else can I say except Victory is Sweet, but against those suck-ass whiny friggin' DOOKIES (there's a reason why they're called "Devils"), well it's just AWESOME!!! I think I need to travel to Chapel Hill so I can dance on Franklin Street and celebrate being #1 in the ACC!!! (hmmmmmmm.... road trip time????) :) I (gasp, yes) missed most the game to see Glen Phillips and John Mayer live tonight in NYC... I'm speechless... I LOVE GLEN (incredible and spiritual as always) and was very impressed with John's music (he's only 23!). Oh yeah, Mark from Aware says hello! GO TAR HEELS!!!

Is anybody watching Jay Leno? (I normally watch Letterman -- but Brad Pitt!) In any case, they are playing a game called "Jay Walking", in which he asks college students easy questions. Like Howard Stern's Homeless Game. He asked a USC (not Carolina) football player named Nathan, "In how many days did God create the universe?" His response, "Seven days." Leno: "Nathan, when did he rest?" Nathan: "ON THE EIGHTH DAY . . ."
