It's with a heavy heart that i have to be the bearer of sad news for all you melonfans. For the past two years, the band has struggled to maintain our fan base and touring and recording profile. Without the support of a major label promotion and touring financial advantages, it has become a diminshing scenario for Cravin' Melon. Doug has decided that it's time to hang up the hat and pursue other things. That being said, the band has decided that without Doug, it just wouldn't be Cravin' Melon. Therefore we are annoucing the band's retirement effective Mid April. We are going to try to hit every market that we can between now and April 15, so keep and eye on the Dates Page of the website and come on out to bid the band farewell. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank ALL of our fans throughout the world, from the bottom of our hearts. It was you, the fans that kept us going over the years. We'd also like to thank Scotty and Keith, the the street team, and all of the family members that have supported us over the past 8 years. We had a good run at it, we made a lot of folks happy and we had some great shows along the way. We're sorry to see it come to a close, but that's where we are. Cravin's music has touched a lot of folks. Let's remember all the good times fondly, play the CDS and be thankful we had a chance to do this.

Doug/CM: Usually with so much anticipation built up, the event fizzles and falls short. Not so this weekend!! Saturday night was as special as it gets. The energy was unbelievable, and the crowd was as pumped as you guys were. It was wonderful meeting Kim, NY Amy, Turtle, TT Dave, Jules, and the Jones Gang, and sharing one last night of Melon music. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: You guys have meant so much to all of us over the past seven years. Until a new chapter is written in your musical lives, we shall cling to our memories, as well as our Cravin Melon CD collection for solace and comfort. God Bless you all, and put me on the mailing list for REUNION #1 tickets. scottd

Well, it's finally over, but what a great way to end. I'm so proud of how our guys went out -- on top, selling out two shows and playing to two great crowds. We all know how much the music they gave us has meant, so that goes without saying. I will say, however, that Melon has given us something far beyond just the music. The existence of this band has created a little world that we have all been a part of for the last few years in the melonpatch and at the shows. Through following this band, I have met and became friends with dozens of really nice people that I otherwise would never have met. And that is what I am most thankful for. It would be rare to ever find a local band that has that kind of power to bring people together. Everyone follow Dick's advice and don't drift apart. Melon are not playing shows anymore, but we still have this little place in the world where we can be fans and friends. -- Kevin

Last night's show at the Handlebar was a fitting end; a fantastic show to end 8 years of great shows. I first saw CM when Greenville Memorial Auditorium was about to be demolished a few years ago (CM & Edwin McCain for a buck, that's like 10 cents a melon--what a steal!). I'd heard of the band but never seen them, and was instantly hooked. Since then, I managed to see quite a few shows as they made the rounds, and every single one was worth it. During shows I've been slammed into walls by overly amourous yet highly intoxicated couples, groped by total strangers *and* met a lot of really nice fans (usually when lauging about/recovering from the antics of the above mentioned folks) and I wouldn't have missed a minute of it. Thanks for the long strange trip, guys. And as for a live recording of the final concert, I'm all for it! (As for the videos, boy, I don't think I need to be reminded yet again that not everyone should be allowed to wear a babydoll tee, but I'd love that, too...) jbean Greenville

You never really get to say everything you'd like to in a crowded room where everyone wants to talk to the men of the hour. So just breifly and without getting too cheesy, I just wanted to say thanks for all you guys have done for us over the years. You've been a great influence not only musically, but also as role models on how to be a rock band. You've been more than cool to us and we love ya' for it. Glad we could be there this weekend, hope we'll be seeing you all soon as you begin new chapters in your musical careers. Much love, john@revelationdarling.com www.revelationdarling.com

Just got home from my trip to SC to see your final show. It was definitely the best CM show I've seen, and certainly the most emotional! Along with your many, many other fans, I want to say THANK YOU so much for the most wonderful experience over the past several years. I have so many wonderful memories of your shows and was thrilled to get the chance to meet you guys. Not only do you play incredible music, you are great people too, a rare combination. All of you are very special, and I know each of you will go far in whatever it is you decide to do next. I look forward to keeping up with what you are up to in the future. Thank you again for the memories and the gift of your music. I hope to see you all again someday. . . . Lorie Lindsley Welcome, NC lorielindsley@hotmail.com

THANK YOU Thank You Thank You for an incredible (yet emotional) show Friday night!!! I wish so bad that I could've gone Saturday but...too young. It was great seeing all my fellow fans that I love too. :) Even though there is no more Cravin' Melon...they'll always remain one of my favorite bands EVER. I've been listening to these guys since I was 12 years old!!! (19 now) I remember the first time I ever heard 'Sweet Tea'. It was at my first Hootie concert and Cravin' opened up. I loved them from the very beginning of the set but when I heard 'Sweet Tea'....that just did something. I remember after the concert, all I could think about on the way home was Cravin' Melon. The Hootie show was great...but I wanted to see more Cravin'. Of course, I couldn't go see them like I wanted to because they played at bars and being 12 years old....that just didn't work. :) Anyway....as it's been said numerous times...these guys are gonna be missed terribly. But certainly never will be forgotten. There's always lots of bands that come around, but only a few stay with you and touch your heart. I can honestly say that Cravin' Melon has changed my life. If you're reading...thank you guys for everything. We'll miss you. STEPH from 'ROCK VEGAS' melonfan@hotmail.com

CM... I'm a transplant to Raleigh from San Diego, CA. Charles Taylor introduced me to your music back in March of 1998 while I was in Sanford, NC on a business trip. One listen and I was hooked! My family and many friends from the San Diego area are Melon Heads. I planted the seeds the past few years and your music is greatly appreciated by them. At one time back in 1998, when you were going to be recording in So.Cal I suggested to Charles that Cravin Melon needed to play at the "Belly Up Tavern" in Solana Beach, CA. I realize that didn't happen, but I know the place would have been packed and the crowd would have been "Blown Away " by your live performance. Since moving to Raleigh in January 99 I've seen you perform a number of times... and you put on a great show!! One of my best memmories is the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach last summer on July 15 Your performance was outstanding!!! I took the family to see you play at the HOB again this past March. This was the first time my kids, ages 9 and 12 saw you perform live. Just seeing their reactions, Wow, it was a very special time. We saw you play again at the "Live at Five" bash in Raleigh and it was great! Having read some of the other comments by your fans, I'd like to add my name to the growing list of Melon Heads who would like to see your final performance recorded and put out as a Live CD!! Thanks for the great music and good times!! Kurt Anderson Raleigh, NC

Hello once again, just before the 2nd to the last show....I know Someone will be videotaping(or even audio recording) tomorrow night's Cravin' Melon show, and I do hope they will be made available (for a reasonable price!). I am definitely interested!! Also, can anyone also record the Far Too Jones set as well? I for one would be very appreciative! Well let's all have fun at the shows this weekend and let the guys enjoy it completely! Later! Guz imtheguz@earthlink.net

I have only seen you twice and I hate that I can't make the final performance. I have thoroughly enjoyed your music. Will any of you be joining other bands or is this it? It would be a shame to waste such talent. Now that the chance of sounding like a crazed groupie is lessened, I would like to know if Rob is available. I know practically every woman that has seen him on stage has the hots for him. I met him both times that I attended your concerts in Asheville, NC. If you could just let me know, I would appreciate it. Sometimes you have to take a shot. Keep playing. Music keeps us young. By the way......I am 32. Sincerely, Redda Rhymer

Just arrived back in Greensboro after the pilgrimage to see CM play one final time. I might add it was one awesome show, and i'm really going to miss these guys. Wish i could have stuck around for Saturday Night, but you can't win them all, right? Keep me posted on the show. I'm most certainly going to be having some serious CM withdrawl now- Saw them last weekend here in G'boro, and last night in G'ville. Wish the guys would re-concider, but i understand the burnout factor involved. Maybe there's hope, though- Jimbo did say something about one of the guys being in Nashville trying to pitch the songs... A hope, or a dream? Best of luck to Doug, Jim, Rob, Chad, and Gary. Thanks for all the Music, Memories, and good times. -Matt Kaiser

Hey all, since I didn't have a chance to say this last night at the final concert, but even though I got a late start at being somewhat of a groupie, I'm glad I finally did because you guys are great. I've never had as much fun at concerts as I do, or have had, at your concerts. I must say that I am extremely happy that I barely made it past the cutoff age for your final concert. However, none of my friends that are as big concert goers as I am are 21. So, basically, I came alone, just to see the special event...haha. I just wanted to say thanks for putting on some great shows that I wish I could have seen more of. Exactly what are all of you planning on doing now that it's all over? Thanks again. You guys are great. Steph

First, I want to apologize to all the Melonheads who sent me pictures for the video, that we did not actually get to show it at the last show. Keith & Scotty tried relentlessly to get a set-up for me & it just would not happen. Know this, I got the video to Doug & hopefully all the guys will get a chance to see it. The last two nights have been awesome! Soemthing I will NEVER forget. How blessed am I to have known such wonderful people , 5 guys who have changed my life for the better (4-ever). I regret that I did not meet some of the wonderful fans until last night & hope to see you all again, that Melon Reunion thing sounds good to me!!! ??? I appreciate the Travel Lodge gang for letting me hang out with them around the pool last night ( early this morning, actually). I felt it was healing; hope so for you guys too! Please let the patch go on for a while, I think we all need a chance to "heal". I wish I had gotten to talk to & hug all the guys one last time, but thanks to the Greenville City parking lot patrol that did not happen! I would like to keep in touch & know what ya'll are up to...please e-mail me some( e-mail ) addresses!!!! You guys will NEVER fully understand the impact you have had on your dedicated fans....just know ( sniff) here we go.... (sniff)....we could probably never give back to you what you gave to us & we are so grateful to have been part of the ride!!! ***the road goes on forever & the party never ends*** Love you all & wish ya' the very best life has to offer !! It's not about the melody. It's about the beat...the rhythm. The heart is the beat. Everything else around it lives because of the beat, because of the rhythm. Close your eyes and feel it, then you will see. The meaning of a song or poem is not to be understood or picked apart by a a bunch of curious monkeys. It's not meant to change the world or anyone else's life--it's clearly changed the writer's life already. It's only to be recognized. For those that recognize, it will inspire them to smile and close their own eyes and feel their own beat...their own rhythm. THIS is the bridge that brings our souls closer to understanding one another. The beat may change pace from time to time from pain, joy or sorrow, though it continues. We all have a beat within. Find it. Use it to make your own rhythm. Be well. Look well. Feel well. Fare well. Thank you with all my heart, Cheerleader Legs

Hi Dick, I got a call Thursday from Kim saying that she had worked out a way for me to get two tickets. I don't know how that happened but I am greatly appreciative to whoever made it possible. The show was great, the single greatest Melon concert ever! Thank Doug for giving me his pick at the end of the show. I was honored. I gave it to my daughter when I got back home. She was thrilled. Was a recording made of the show? Thank the guys again for a wonderful eight years. Thank you for providing the area with such great bands. Thanks, Wayne

I haven't seen or heard as much on CM since I've lived in atlanta... other than to see a post in Creative Loafing of your final performance recently... and realized WOW... definitely the end of an era. (Heck ~ It killed me enough when TNM split and CM started!!) I'm reading posts from people who talk about finding the guys of CM "years ago" and seem to have come to a bit of a self realization: CM (and TheNextMove & DogHouse), their music and their fans, have been a BIG part of my life. I guess the summer nites, bathing suit & cocktails, full force LIVE at the Windjammer will now be replaced with an afternoon beer, lounge chair and my ever faithful Walkman playing some CM tunes. (Am I getting old?) No more 30-minute funk jams of Brick House? **SAY IT AIN'T SO?!?!!?!?!?!?!?** I hate to hear it's the end..... and wish i could be there to see y'all in Greenville. Best of luck to you guys in all you do. You provided a helluvalotta goodtimes in my life for MANY years and I wish you the best. Thanx for the memories......... (ok....all of them but one particular evening at Clancy's in Spartanburg... which i have forever blocked from my mind!) Peace & happiness, Suzanne P.S. GO TIGERS!

Last-minute pre-trip thoughts from this Northernseed... "that counter on the guestbook is ticking and I've been spending some time trying to figure out a way to make it stop, and it just won't stop... please, make it stop..." Ok, so I'm very happy to be making this final road-trip... It's been too long since my last live Melon show (Feb?). I miss all my Melonpatch pals! :\ I'm also very excited Revelation Darling and Far Too Jones will be there. I just got off of a 3-way call with Tat2Dave and Christy... Dave's probably on the road by now in his convertible and Christy & I will be airborne early tomorrow morning. KC- yeah, I agree about Where I Wanna Be. I have two copies just in case something happens to one, and I told Jimbo years ago that "Post Office" (the WIWB version) had one of the smoothest, most elegant guitar solos ever. I was just remembering that conversation the other day so it's nice to hear someone who agrees with me. Oh, and not to be a nag, but I found one ticket for Saturday, can somebody please help me out with 1 more...I can't leave the girlfriend at home!! Thanks....Pat Reid prrthead@yahoo.com

I highly suggest that anyone who does not have a copy of "Where I Wanna Be" snag it quickly from Doug's stash. I have a lot of opinions about the transition from the tunes on Where I Wanna Be to Red Clay. For those that don't have WIWB, it contains many songs that are on Red Clay. Some of them were improved 100X over on Red Clay. Sweet Tea and Pretend are examples. These two songs are flawless on Red Clay. But something happend with other tunes, "Come a Day" and "Post Office" in particular. The Red Clay versions are much more mellow than the harder rocking WIWB versions (not that I don't like those). The original Post Office contains probably one of the best guitar solos Jimbo has ever put on disc. It is amazing. The original "Come a Day" has a defining riff that isn't in the Red Clay version, not to mention a classic guitar solo. Who else thinks Where I Wanna Be is the best thing since sliced bread? I'm curious to hear from you.

ok.. i guess i have been delaying saying much for a while. im thinking about how different its gonna be a week from now, no cravin show to look forward to in the coming weeks. I am both excited and extremely sad about this weekend. I am happy because my mom will get to see cravin melon live for the first time ever. i think she is gonna kick herself for not coming over the past years- she always said that she was too old for that and i kept telling her that i was the one of the youngest there most of the time. and thats another thing that i think is so amazing about cravin melon.. so many people love the music. it seems to bring some of the neatest (and most fun people) ive ever met together in a club to make times ill never forget. This is the only band that i can truely say i love every song (no skipping tracks on the CDs) and i have some sort of memory-big or small- to go with each one. I am also excited about meeting some of these people that i have seen post on the web page and talked to online -especially AMY ! :) im glad that so many of us will be together for a night that i know will top any other concert i have ever seen.. and to know that i can call the guys friends makes it so special. and i really appreciate the things both they and dick have done for me- even if it was just the time to stand around and talk for a while- its such a big part of what makes the music even that much better. it all means so much to me and it doesnt seem fair that some of the nicest and most talented guys out there didnt get what they deserved. it looks like ill just be at the friday show because of the good old 21+ rule :(- but i want to come by afterwards and talk to everyone. im wishing i could stop time and keep it all from ending, but i sure am glad i was a small part of the ride. -see yall friday- Logan

Hello to all my melonseeds! How bout that, the show is sold out! I tried to get them to hold it @ the Bi-Lo Center for this exact reason, but nobody ever listens to little ol' Turtle! Anyhow, for those of us staying @ TraveLodge you'll be excited to know that there's a pool and a free breakfast (that most of us will already be awake for), Oh and the best part is there's FREE truck parking! That's right, FREE truck parking! Of course this really only benefits the truck stop hookers but thought I'd try to get Captain excited or something! HA! HA! Okay so, here we are 3 days away from the end and I've got some serious colon issues going on from all the stress and sadness! Glad to see people posting their stories, memories, etc. I'd like to say that I agree w/ Pat Reid on how great "Can't Find My Way Home" is! Thanks for backing me up and maybe they'll surprise us and play it one last time! Hint, hint! Anyhow, looking forward to seeing everyone soon! And thank you to DaNameTagLady for setting up a table w/ nametags! Everyone be sure to stop by and fill out a tag and wear it all night long! Please write in big bold letters b/c I'm sure there will be many melonseeds suffering from fuzzy vision! See ya'll soon!!!

I don't know that anyone who reads these particularly cares to hear my Cravin' Melon story, but I would like to share it anyway, so feel free to scroll down to the next post. My particular adventure started in 1995 when I was a freshman at ECU I caught the guys when they opened for Hootie at Elon College. Besides being better than Hootie that night, they had an infectious sound that won we over within minutes. I had never liked the original "Never Been to Spain" but I liked Cravin's version. And while "Sweet Tea" was cool, the song that stuck with me was "Can't Find My Way Home." I bought their CD's and made plans to catch them again a week later in Greenville at the Attic. I emailed them before the show and that night, when I met the guys, they remembered my email and from that day forward they have recognized me and gone out of their way to chat and catch me up on things. I also went to the late-night that night on Holly Street (boy, those were the days) but that's a different story for another time. In the years since there have been too many stories to repeat here but some memorable occasions would have to include a show at the Brewery in Wilmington mere hours after a hurricane turned to avoid the city (there were maybe 20 people there). That night featured a batch of brand new songs including "Come Undone" and "Simple Man." Of course before that there was the day that Rick emailed me telling me (on the down-low) that the band had been signed. I was so excited that when a cop pulled me for speeding on ECU's campus (I was going 45 in a 15 zone) he let me off with a warning because he could tell that I was excited about something. Then there was the first Alive After 5 appearance. I rushed through my Bio exam taking a little over an hour for a 2-hour exam so I would get there on time. From the Alive After 5's to the Big Shindigs, the July 4th's to the New Year's, I celebrated them all with Cravin' shows. From Charlotte to Wilmington and Virginia Beach to Charleston, I have traveled and scheduled my vacations with the band's dates in mind. At first the same people were at all the shows and we were a family. Then, over time, the faces changed - mostly getting younger - but the music still had that same harmony that has always been so alluring. I have lost count of the number of shows I've seen (I stopped counting at 30 and that was 2-3 years ago) because I figured it would never end. Cravin' had always been there and I didn't see any reason why they wouldn't. And now, as the end is in sight it pisses me off a little. "Artists" like Britney Spears and N'Sync are millionaires with no talent while the true face of music sweats it out in bars across America before giving it up and settling their financial debts. Bands like Cravin' are the root and the foundation of real music in this country and it's shame that we have to mark them as another casualty of the "industry." I could go on, but the real point of all this is merely to say "thanks" to the band. Thanks for the good times, the shows, the souvenirs (I still have the hat Doug gave me for my 21st birthday and the beer that I told Jimbo I would keep after the Theta Chi party) and the stories. But most importantly, thanks for the music that has provided the soundtrack to the last 6 years of my life. Gary, J.J., Rick, Chad, Rob, Jimbo, and Doug, may you have good luck and God's blessings in all that you venture to do from here……..Pat Reid

Hey everyone!! Just a few more days left...Hope everyone comes out early to check out Far Too Jones on Saturday night. It is appropriate that FTJ will be the ones to open up for them - they have been great friends over the years and always put on a great show together. Looking forward to seeing the best group of fans out there supporting the best Greenville band this weekend! Guz Greenville, SC

Looking for some help finding any and all Cravin' Melon music available. I am interested in live shows/recordings, any cuts that might not have made it to studio albums, etc... - basically anything Cravin' Melon. We have all of the studio releases and with the band calling it quits, I would like to get hold of as much Melon as I can. I spoke to Doug following the last show at Sir Richard's in Danville and he indicated that there were recordings out there - I just needed to get in touch with the right people. He specifically mentioned their soundman - whose name escapes me now - as being a possible source for some music. I thought Doug said there was a link on the Melonpatch website, but I must have misunderstood. Could you possibly put me in touch with someone or forward this e-mail to someone who might be able to assist me in this endeavor??? Hate to see the band calling it quits. My wife and I have been following them for years. Got started with Doug, Jimbo, etc... back when they would open for Hootie and continued following them as they became the headliners. The Blind Tiger, The Afterdeck, Ziggy's, Sir Richard's, GGCC Kickoff party, etc... Just want to add - my wife would really love to have a live recording of Doug singing 'The Dance'. Don't know how often he performs it, but she was almost in tears when he sang it at Sir Richard's. I am sure it has made it onto a disc somewhere. Thanks in advance for your help. It's a shame that one of the greatest bands in the Carolinas' is callin it quits. I remember when you guys first started, me and a bunch of my Frat Brothers in Wilmington saw you at The Mad Monk. Then you played at our house for Chickin Pickin. I still have the T-Shirt we made FTJ played that day as well. What an awesome day that was. Too bad something couldn't be done to stop this ball from rollin down hill. I have seen you guys over the years at different places.....Wilmington NC, Greenville NC, Raleigh NC, New Years Eve @ Ziggy's in Winston Salem (another awesome Melon show). Then I will never forget, my wife (who has a signed CD from a show in Wilmington) and I were checkin out these shops in the University area in Charlotte NC. There was this new bar/club opening up, Fat Tuesdays, I had been to some others in other parts of the country, so we wlaked up to check out when opening was. To my wonder I saw "Grand Opening featuring Cravin Melon" I think if you showed up by 8PM it was free. So of course we were there, dragged my cousin from Atlanta GA. At the time he coudn't see how a band called Cravin Melon could be good. I told him he would be a MelonHead before night was over. Sure 'nuff he was hooked!!. Well, I know you guys are sayin, man this cat is full of it. But I am truly going to miss you guys, you have been a part of music enjoyment for over 7 years now. Take Care Good Luck with whatever comes your way.

I have decided to take time out of my not-so-busy schedule at work to tell y'all my two cents worth.  Right now, I am feeling happy/sad about the 19th.  I am happy because I will be spending the day and night with two of my best friends at a concert that will more than likely go down in history as one of the best shows I have ever been too.  I am sad because this will be the last time to see a great band put on a great show.  But, I plan on buying a t-shirt, wearing it everyday, and whenever I need a Melon fix, popping in a cd and knocking back a cold one.  If by chance I ever win the lottery, I am going to a) buy a beach house b) buy  lots of cars and c) start some record label and sign all the bands that kick ass but sometimes get lost in the shuffle.  So don't let your instruments get too dusty, and I'll see you on the 19th.  Also, if any Melonheads actually read this, and you will be staying at the Hampton Inn Greenville-Haywood Rd., drop me a line.  Later- Aaron

I don't know if it's Melon on my brain (quite likely - especially since it's sinking in that we're down to the last couple of shows), coincedence or subtle innuendos, but has anyone else noticed little "hints" in the 98.7 Hoo Ha promotional ads? Example: "OK all you PROCRASINATORS, it's now COME DOWN TO THE WIRE......." Where was this Program Director when we needed him most? :( It's really great to hear the support (and, if 98.7 is reading, don't get me wrong, it's greatly appreciated), but IT'S LONG OVERDUE dontcha think? ----Terri

How is everyone in Melon land? I have had an extended absence from the 'patch. During the HOB show I got a call that they had to take my mother to the hospital, since then I have been in a whirlwind. She had "ARDS" she is home now and doing great. She laid in the bed knocked out for about 5-6 weeks, so she still has a long way to go physical therapy wise. The one escape I had was the music of Cravin Melon, they made the hour drive (one way) to the hospital a little shorter. And when I saw them in Asheville they signed a picture and Rob wrote a message on the back that his father had the same thing etc.... When I gave it to her she acted like it was a bar of gold. Anyway the point is I want to thank all of the guys for being so nice and taking the time to care. Keith thank you for all of you concern as well. More importantly than being great musicians they are great people. It is so sad to see it end but I am glad I got to be a part of it. See all of you guys in Green(e)ville. Thanks again. OMG! I love the T-shirt... we'll make sure THE PARTY NEVER ENDS! My wall-of-fame could use another Melon poster (love them too Keith!)... seeing how it can't possibly be bad luck anymore! Nothing like "Turtle Power" whupping Gouda's @ss on Doc's behalf... who's cooler than you (Rock excluded)?! Hugs to the Melongeek who's having a rough emotional time down there in the 'Patch... "Drops of Jupiter" very well could have inspired the mood (what an incredible tune!) but I think the inevitability is hitting all of us right about now... As I get ready to pack my (carry-on only!) bag for SC, it's sad to know that this is the last time I will be packing with Melon in mind. I've been carrying around a large box of Kleenex since an atomic pollen bomb was dropped here this weekend... think it might be making this last road-trip with me (just in case). Sniff... I could hardly believe my ears!!!! Sitting here at my desk trying to get a bid out the door and I hear the DJ at 98.7 The Point saying...."here it is, it's called Silk Sunflowers"!!!!!!!!!! NOW THEY PLAY IT!!!! Guess the rumors are true that they have a new Program Director and this one has taste. I called to thank him for playing it and told him how frustrating it had been banging my head against a brick wall time and time again and how great it was to finally hear it played, especially after all the requests I and all the other fans out there have made without success. He said that it was his pleasure and he thinks it's a "Great Song". FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!! OK everyone, get on the phones (336) 574-0987. Let's see how many songs from GP we can get played between now and the Hoo Ha. Afterall, the 98.7 Poll for the band we'd most like to see there shows who we're all coming to see ;) Terri

Just heard Silk Sunflowers playing on 98.7 in Greensboro. A little late don't ya think. Now that they have something to promote for themselves ( Hoo Haa ) they don't mind giving some air time to Cravin'. Everyone should call the station and thank them for all their support. Hey melonheads, Go click the "Hoo Ha" on the dates page and vote for Cravin Melon. They ask which band you are going to the Hoo Ha to see. You can choose Melon, Sister Hazel, Eve 6, Semisonic, or Evan Olson. And guess who's in the lead?.........drum roll.........yep, our guys are in the lead. 42% of the people who have voted say they are going to the Hoo Ha for CM. The next highest is Sister Hazel at 28%. I wonder how 98.7 feels about that. How ironic that Melon would be the big draw of THEIR concert.

As difficult as it is to post so close to the Greenville show, I must say that the show in Raleigh was one of the most fun shows I've ever been to. It was AMAZING! "Drift Away" to "Brick House" Cravin' Melon and Weekend Excursion are fabulous together! Gary, thanks for the sticks! Benjye, I took Rob's advice and added some "Oooo's" to my song! "Ooooo... tap, tap, tap... BEN-JYE! Oooo..." I'm putting a hold on my songwriting career for now. ;-)~ I'll stick to parodies. I'm good at those, right Terri? I don't know if it was Saturday's show, "Drops of Jupiter" playing on the stereo, or inevitability that struck me as I sat here creating what is probably the last "banner" I will make for the Melonpatch, but I felt the need to finally throw in my two bits

It isn't unfortunate that they lost and never returned to a "major label". There is no label around that was worthy of this band. And no amount of sweet tea or banana pudding that could teach them to understand what was before them, and what it meant to all involved, band and melonheads included.

The unfortunate part is now the rest of the world will not hear some of the best lyrics ever written, the concerts that could put a present day stadium show to shame, and 5 of the greatest guys this business has ever known.

A great band has called it quits. Consider yourself fortunate that you know and cherish what they have given to our little corner of the world, and pity those that will now never know what they gave us.

Thanks guys, for letting me be a small part of the journey.

It looks like Christy, Dave & I will be the ones representing the Northeast since Cynde, Gouda, et al won't be able to make the trip. :( Oh well, we tried our best. Thanks so much for the priceless gift! Turtle, take care of your bro when he's down there so I can exact my revenge when he returns... LOL! Well, guys (Doug, Rob, Gary, Chad, and Jimbo)... I just can't tell you enough how much you will be missed. I've gone to every Cravin show that I can make it to (which still isn't enough!), and every time I've been on the front, or near the front row (I love it up there...eye contact, I can hear what goes on when you just talk to eachother, I can see the goofy stuff that you do (Gary), and I can check out the incredible guitar skills up close and it's awesome) I'll miss taking a trip to Be Here Now or The Music Zone, or the Lincoln Theater, or the Handlebar, just to see one of my all time favorite bands jam for a few hours. I'm always in the front, taking pictures...but I'd give anything to shake each of your hands and thank you for 7 years of good, heartfelt music and awesome shows...who knows, maybe I will catch up with you at a Weekend Excursion concert or something awesome like that...but, if I don't get the chance to thank you at your show at the Handlebar...thank you guys so much for making long drives more enjoyable, for putting me to sleep at night with beautiful songs like freedom town, faithless me, Sweet Blossom, for moving me with your music, and for performing with such fantastic energy and talent... It's been an awesome 7 years, you may break up, but, no doubt, your music will live on..because, music is forever.

What can I say- last night at the lincoln theatre was a classic cravin show. I've been behind you guys since my freshman yr at WFU in 95 and your ziggy's shows rank right up there with some of the best times of my life. I can't believe the end is here- i can admit (as a secure masculine man) that "faithless me" got to me last night. I will miss you guys and your music so much- i got the cd's and the memories like everyody else though- thank you for those because they are permanent. It's a shame to think the crap they try to force on me over the radio when there are incredibly talented and deserving bands out there like yourself. It's been a great ride and i will see you down in south carolina in a couple weeks. Thanks for being so nice to me and all your fans all these years- that makes your calling it quits that much harder. And if you see a big (big-boned) pale white boy jumping up and down like a mad man somewhere near that front row on the 19th- know that's right where i wanna be. Thanks again for everything guys and good luck... that ten year reunion tour sounds good to me- styx and journey not included.- Mike- mikeyheld@hotmail.com

the show in raleigh was so awesome like usual- i think probably one of the best. I had a great time, it made up for me missing the chapel hill show(even though i was there!-due to umm, sickness??-if thats what you call it :) ) .i should be so excited to see summer coming and class to be over with, but i really cant be. even with as much fun as i have, i cant help but be sad to even THINK its gonna end-and its coming all too soon. Im glad i got to talk to everyone up in front- yall make it just as special. See ya at the Hoo Ha & G'ville- Logan

Just wanted to say that you guys sounded great Thursday at Music on Main in Spartanburg. It was by far the best Melon show I've seen. Mr. Keyboard Player, my hats off to you. Glad we got to do a show with you guys, sad that it was one of the last. Thanks to Scotty and the guys for being so cool to work with. You're up there with the best in the business, bro. Best of luck to each and all of you. -Robbie from Davis Page MCs

The show last night in Raleigh was awesome. Its sad that I caught the bandwagon a little too late because I absolutely love the music. I had a great front row spot last night and I really felt like you were sharing the music with all of us. Good things happen to good people, but sometimes it takes patience. Hopefully, you'll get your break because with talent like that, you deserve it. Take it with a smile, thanks for one of the best nights of my life! Jennifer from NCSU

Hey guys---that was another amazing show at the Lincoln Theater last night! The two shows you guys have played there are two of the best I've ever seen. Thanks very much for playing some of the TGP tunes we haven't heard in a while. Still wishing some miracle will happen that will allow Cravin' to stay together. Melongeek, you'll be happy to know that I dragged a bunch of friends out to Arlene Grocery last night to see Far Too Jones... they had a great set and a good response from the crowd... YAY! Got a chance to talk with all the FTJ guys before they got in the van to continue their endless road trip... they appreciate the well-wishes from the Melonpatch, and I can tell that they love y'all very much! Chris, Dave, Alan, Scott & Kyle... y'all are so nice - and we have our fingers crossed for you! Rob, it was great to hear your voice too and you can rest assured that I made it to and from NYC without incident (those trucks were making me a little nervous). Hope you told Pickett and those guys hello from me. All our plans for the Greenville show are set... Christy, Turtle, Gouda & Miss July, I reserved the hotel room, so all we have to do is meet at the TraveLodge in 15 days (woo hoo!) to start the party!!! If anyone goes to see PMB in Raleigh tonight, give the merch dude a swift kick on my behalf. :P Hugs and sunshine and Melons to all... the Northernseeds will be arriving in SC soon enough... better get ready! Then I went to the website...and oh...no more band. Damnit! So I'm thinking about takin' a mad ass roadtrip to the Carolinas tomorrow to see 'em before it's too late.

Ok, I'll play along with the movie game. Here are my first initial thoughts: Kevin Costner=Scotty, Tom Arnold=Keith, Mike Meyers=Chad, Pauley Shore=Gary, Eddie Cibrian=Rob, Jonathan Frakes=Doug, Keifer Sutherland=Jimbo(the resemblance is definately there), Jack Nicholson=Dick. Hey guys, I've never seen you play live but I fell in love with the band four years ago when I was a freshman in high school. My brothe-in-law, Mike used to be in a frat with some of you at ECU. He also managed at the Attic in Greenville, NC. He's the one who really turned me on to you. I'm giving up my jr/sr weekend to see you play in Greensboro, NC on May 12. Let's all have a round of applause for two great shows this weekend. The Lambda Chi block party was amazing. Mark did a great job on drums filling in for Gary. Did anyone get a final count of how many people were there? It was slam packed. Keith, thanks for hooking us up with some brews! The Dogwood festival was a great set as well. Unbelievable sound quality at this show. The festival was kind of funny because there were 3 acts before Melon, all of which were either a boy band or a Britney Spears type girl singer. It was so gratifying to see the Melons storm the stage and blow that bubble gum pop crap away (don't mean to offend). Charles, it was great seeing you again. I thought you had dropped off earth for a while there. See ya'll at Lincoln Theatre. DO NOT miss this show. For those of you who missed the first Lincoln Theatre show, this your second chance, so don't blow it :-)) It it's even half as good as the first one, you're in for a treat.

Movie Response--- Wish I knew enough about movie stars and about all the band members to respond but since I don't I'll stick to what I know..and that is Gary. There is only one person that could play Gary.....Princess Leah!! There is nothing kinky about this response, but there is a story with photographic evidence. I shouldn't be the one to tell it.

So glad I went to the Dogwood Festival in Farmville yesterday. Wouldn't have missed it for the world! Doug, is there anything we fans can do to change your mind about pursuing "other things" and continuing on with the terrific Melon music and that great voice of yours? I sure hope those other things are deserving of our loss! By the way, Doug, has anyone ever told you that your voice sounds like Johnny Rivers? I hope you guys keep the website going for awhile. I got a feeling that I'll be wearing out my melon CDs and will need to visit the store quite a bit in the near future. I'll never forget the first time I heard "Sweet Tea." I thought it was one of the greatest songs I had heard in a long, long time. I ran straight to Walmart and was so disappointed when I couldn't find it. I'd really like to know who wrote it. I wish you all success and as much happiness as you've given us, the fans, over the years. I'll go take my antidepressant now! The best to you all, I'm an Indian Outlaw (for real!) Here's my post: Ok, I'm a little tired of this quiet-ness. What I need most in this time of depression, is some laughter and the closeness that the guestbook once had. More memories, more laughter, more good times. Not just one or two people posting. If you're out there and not posting because it's thru email, stop being silly. Dick is out there to protect our boys. I don't think he's withheld a post yet. Anyway, I have a question that everyone can answer. ... If Hollywood were to make a movie about Cravin' Melon who (besides the guys themselves) do you think should portray each of the guys? Just post whatever first pops into your head... here's my inital response... Scotty -Matthew McConaughey; Keith -Drew Carey; Jimbo -(this is a given) Keifer Sutherland; Gary -Mike Myers; Chad -Ben Stiller; Rob -Ben Affleck; Doug -Brendan Frasier; Dick -Dennis Franz. Gouda- Do you remember the days when you were a SIMPLE MAN and I was your ONE AND ONLY FRIEND? Okay so Hutch, Fogle, Big Dave, Taco and the rest of Leatherhood were your friends too, but that was only b/c you had the ultimate hooptie mobile that could haul everyone to the POST OFFICE and then on to Bailey's for a little Cravin' Melon. You guys would stage dive to LAND OF OZ, while I'd be off RUNNING to get more beer. I'm still waiting for there to COME A DAY when you guys beer-run for me! In the meantime, Bailey's couldn't handle us when it was time to COME UNDONE and they had to shut down. Many people thought we were DOWN WITHOUT A HOME, but with Gouda TIED TO THE WHEEL of the hooptie, we made it to Ashevegas where we owned the front row everytime! For five years we'd sit around hungover @ Grandma's Pancake Barn after CM shows while sipping on SWEET TEA, listening to Gouda talk about how he'd NEVER BEEN TO SPAIN but would like to b/c he hears the women there are hot. "Oh.........FAITHLESS ME" he'd say over and over as he dreamt of the women! And Fogle would crack us up with stories about his EX-STEPMOTHER. Yes, I admit these really are some of my memories as a melonseed! It's way too late for anyone to SAVE ME now! The damage is done! In 98' it was time to grow up and move on, so with a SUGAR COATED GOODBYE, we all went our separate ways! But as you all know CM has that STANGEWAY of making friendships last until the end of time! And for many of us, this last show is more than a band calling it quits, it's a reunion of melonseeds far and wide! Some of which haven't seen each other in 2-3 years! So Gouda, this is my public plea to you to quit being THE GREAT PROCRASTINATOR that you have become and quit telling Turtle, Rock and Doc that you GOT NO TIME and arrange to come to Greenville! Without you there I CAN'T FIND MY WAY to the beer. Okay so that's the biggest lie I ever told, but I will never have PEACE OF MIND if you can't join us for Cravin' Melon one last time! This sweet BLOSSOM longs to hear her bro yell out "HEY SISTER get me a beer!" Don't you know that friends don't let friends miss the last CM show ever, just like friends don't call the ambulance when you need to go to Harris Regional b/c you thought you were CAMELOT! So, start packing the SILK SUNFLOWERS because you are on your way to FREEDOM TOWN, where you still are NOBODY'S PRIZE, but where SOMEONE is out there waiting........... It's called your friends! Loves you! Your Sis (The BEAUTIFUL THING that has harassed you since birth and will until the day we die!)

As Amy mentioned, we've got our flights booked and the car waiting. Just need to pick a place to crash (close and cheap, that's our motto--don't plan on spending much time there!) So Tat2Dave...you're seriously thinking about this? Maybe I could finally get my ride in your convertible when we're down there! It would be most awesome! And I CANNOT wait to meet all the "southern" Melonseeds! Amy--you're the best and I can't wait to "party like rock stars" with you guys!! Counting the days! Christy czdmd@home.com

I did buy my tickets to the shows just in case I make it :-) who knows I could be there taping the show. I really think I need to be there because I hate to see all of this come to an end but there is nothing I can do about that. Starting this weekend I will be making copies of the two shows I have on tape. When I'm done with the Bands copy I will offer it to everyone but I might wait until the last show because some way I will have it on video and then it will be a completed tape :-) The thank you's the band did are great and everyone will love it.
