It's with a heavy heart that i have to be the bearer of sad news for all you melonfans. For the past two years, the band has struggled to maintain our fan base and touring and recording profile. Without the support of a major label promotion and touring financial advantages, it has become a diminshing scenario for Cravin' Melon. Doug has decided that it's time to hang up the hat and pursue other things. That being said, the band has decided that without Doug, it just wouldn't be Cravin' Melon. Therefore we are annoucing the band's retirement effective Mid April. We are going to try to hit every market that we can between now and April 15, so keep and eye on the Dates Page of the website and come on out to bid the band farewell. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank ALL of our fans throughout the world, from the bottom of our hearts. It was you, the fans that kept us going over the years. We'd also like to thank Scotty and Keith, the the street team, and all of the family members that have supported us over the past 8 years. We had a good run at it, we made a lot of folks happy and we had some great shows along the way. We're sorry to see it come to a close, but that's where we are. Cravin's music has touched a lot of folks. Let's remember all the good times fondly, play the CDS and be thankful we had a chance to do this.

CONGRATS KIMMY! We're so proud of you! Jimbo, Amy & Drew: Happy to hear the new one is doing well. I'm curious to know what kind of "sales" Doug'll be doing since my boyfriend sells VIAGRA!! Seriously, he does! Head Melon - this season of Six Feet Under wasn't the same without you calling after each episode to discuss. Capt, I don't know when the next reunion will be but I'm always willing to make a trip. Turtle, Jersey, Rock & I have been busy little melons lately - too caught up in our work to stay in touch properly. :( Hard to believe an entire year has gone by. Beantown & I took a July 4th-weekend road trip last year to VA to see Doug sing with Sister Hazel & PMB (HEY MARYLAND CREW - WHERE ARE YOU?!)... Hugs to everyone... I miss y'all.

Hello all! Saw the famous (or as that infamous?) Cravin' Melon drummer, Double G, at Dixies in Charlotte, on stage with Cowboy Mouth. In typical Captainly fashion, I conversed with him while under a seriously drunken influence, so, not quite sure what was said...still waiting for the reunion of all 'Melons...show or no show... --The Captain

God, you guys...I miss you. I know you don't remember me, but you left a lasting impression on my life and my best friends life. My friend was named Hayden, and he was dying from complications due to AIDS. I took him to see you guys play at the Windjammer and he and I were right up front...I don't know if you could tell how sick he really was, but Jimbo and Doug, kept tossing him Jaegermeister's and beers, because as Jimbo told us later...he could see how crowded in Hayden and I were and that Hayden was too hot, too sweaty, and being pushed around way to much...Doug said the same thing...Hayden and I saw a few more of your shows at the Windjammer...including the one, where some of Squeeze Me was supposed to be recorded...and you guys always made us feel like old friends. Hayden died shortly after the release of Squeeze Me...but meeting you guys, and being treated like a friend... made Hayden the happiest, dying man on earth. Getting to be a part,(however small), in your lives, made his last weeks less painful, and so so much easier for him. It took the sting out of his illness. Thank you so much for all the things you did for us, and for your great music. You will be a part of my memories forever. Youalso made a definite impact on my life...you made me remember that there are kind people out there, that do give a damn...you were all so kind and generous. You inspired me to go beyond what I was...and take a chance...thank you for that and for reminding me, to listen beyond the music. You gave me back "my music", and I am now a freelance music journalist in Charleston. If any of you ever want to do an interview for any of Charleston's local music/entertainment papers...let me know...it would be my honor and priviledge. My name is Susan...but you guys knew SO many other people that I know you won't remember me, but I will always remember you...and I hope someday, that our paths might cross again...A Melonhead for life...Susan Phillips

I saw Cravin Melon like 5 or so years ago and Walnut Creek with Edwin McCain and Hootie. It was hands down the greatest concert ever!!! Me and my aunt are huge fans. She saw ya'll at the Lake Boone County Club. But at the concert it was like raining real hard and we were under flash-flood warnings and everything and me and my family were on the lawn!!!! We were and still are huge Hootie and Darius Rucker fans and that is the only reason we went, I had never heard of Cravin melon but I was a instant MelonHead!!!! I saw Hootie and the Blowfish sings 3 songs and my bitchy sister was ready to go but I had a great night and fell in love with your music! I bought Where I Want To be at the concert and listen to it all of the time!!!! I blast Sweet Tea at parties and the whole CD puts me to sleep at night. I Love the MELON!!!!

SARAH- Hello friend....Oh do I ever miss Cullowhee in the summertime. It's a very simple strategy: Get a tube, lots of beer, sunblock and enjoy the Tuckaseegee! Then top of your evening by grilling out w/ good friends and sippin' off the keg! Boredom leads to many everylasting memories. One of my alltime Fav's would be trying to fit 5 people in a canoe and make it down the Tuck from Glenda's Turn-Around. Let's just say myself and partner in crime were calling the house collect begging for a ride back to CV! How bout e-mailing me w/ where you are at so we can catch up, i'll be heading that way more often once July gets here!

Hey, guys - I went to see Jackson Browne last week in Greensboro and he played "Take It Easy." Thought you might be interested that he's changed one of the verses, though. It's not "I'm looking for a lover who won't blow my cover." Instead it's "I'm looking for a lover who'll eat me like lobster in pink sauce." Hey, would I make that up?! *-) He also played a new song called "The Naked Ride Home." I guess everyone has priority changes over the years...Is the June date @ Fosters in Raleigh confirmed? Hate to hear about Foster's. Hope everyone's alright.
Are you going to keep the Jillian's date in Raleigh on the 25th at least?
Yes, have checked Thread's page. Nice...does that have something to do with the cancellation by chance?
BTW, please update the Bankwalkers date page to reflect the changes. Most of us check that rather than the Patch to see where the trio will be next. Thanks.

I feel your pain. :( Good luck, but chances are that one's hanging up in someone's home... if I were you, I'd hang the other one up in your place and tell the DMV they took 'em both 'cause they just might make you give up the one you have left. Sniff. Great chattin' with you the other night Turtle... let's make sure we all get together sooner rather than later. Love y'all!

Headed to Las Vegas, but for now I'm still in, NY USA - Monday, May 13, 2002 at 20:04:18 (EDT)
First off, fun Parklife show at the Blind Tiger last night. Terri & Resh, great seeing y'all again.
Secondly, if anyone at the show or from the area spots a VA license plate CRVNMLN on/in a car other than mine, please get whatever description you can of them and/or their car. Someone, whether for a joke, prank or simply because they are one of the lowest forms of life, stole the back license plate off my car while parked at the Blind Tiger (and the Orioles plate holder also).
While NC only requires one plate to be displayed on a vehicle, VA requires TWO on each car; one on front & one on back. SO, not only am I driving illegally, but so is the a$$munch who stole my license plate.
If the person who took my tags is reading this, please have the decency to contact me & return my property. I may not press charges IF they are returned ASAP. If anyone else has any info, please contact me.
Thanks!

Hey Everybody! Captain-I see you are still the ol' perv we all know and adore! And YES ya'll, I still have my shower cap and I know Rock misses it hanging on the back of the bathroom door @ the Row! It's hard to believe it's been a year (almost)! Geez...how the time flies and how fast things can change, but how great to always be able to return to the patch where everyone knows your name. Doc and Christy I like the idea of a get-together @ the ol' Lodge w/ Roy! I'll bring the Turtle Shooters, Tat2Dave you bring the video camera and Doug, Jimbo, Rob, Gary and Chad bring the MELON and lets get the party that never ends heated back up again! Happy Day!

Doc! I miss you, too! Last May was definitely one of my best weekends ever, too!! Just kicking back with Roy at the TraveLodge, "rooming" with you, Turtle and Doc, hanging with "rock stars", cruisin' in Dave's convertible, and, most of all, two great nights of music courtesy of Cravin' Melon. I don't know about you, but if they decided to do a little one (or two) night reunion show, I would SO be there! We need another road trip Doc!! OK, that's my two cents for this morning. In keeping with Doc's thinking, almost 1 year ago, I got totally smashed on two consecutive nights in the fabulously fun town of Greenville...I met Turtle (love those short women) and Rock for the first time face to face (so to speak..love tall women, too)...and closed the end of an era. Wow! It's also amazing to me that someone could want tab for a song they don't even know. I don't get it. Another thing I don't understand is why that horrid message is back up at the top of the guestbook. Anyone with half a brain who signs onto www.melonpatch.com knows that the band is no longer playing together. Why keep that there? It just makes people sad and depressed all around. Why torture us?

I have asolutely no idea what to say (that's a historical moment.) I just wanted to post something so "I'm Coming Undone" would go away. Maybe if I make this really long, it'll dissapear. I mean why would you want to know how to play a song you don't even know the title to? I can understand a little flub of the title, but tacking on an obvious rebuttle to confirm you're total lack of knowledge of the song, confuses me. In answer to your question however, I do believe it's the standard D, C, G progression. I could be mistaken since I've been wrong before (another historical moment)and I no longer have my guitar readily available, but I'm pretty sure that's it. Hope that heps....PS...The title of the song is "Come Uncome"...the line refering to is..."I'll come undone"

Hey, J-Dog, thanks for the directions! Too bad I got there at the end of Camelot, one of my favorite Melon songs. It was nice having a large slice of Melon, a rare treat these days. The cover songs were fun, especially all those "obscure Beatles tunes"! Hmm...given all the 'amy' connections and how much y'all like that song, maybe you guys should've called yourselves 'The Amies.' Isn't that also French for 'friends', and so it could have been a double entendre! *-P I loved hearing Ex-Stepmother (another favorite) and so many of the songs from the Great Procrastinator, too. The only problem is that it reminds me how much I miss hearing them regularly now. A guy in the crowd, unfamiliar with CM, asked me if Doug and Jimbo were from around that area because so many people in the crowd were singing along to the Melon songs and knew so many of them. Funny isn't it, it seems to be that way no matter where it is that they're playing? I'm so glad, too, that Doug makes it a point at the end of the BW shows to play songs like Faithless Me, Alison, and The Dance....I love them all, and The Dance could almost make me a fan of country music again. Of course then, I'd have to start drinking regularly again, so I could cry in my beer, and then I'd get really fat from all those carbs, and then I'd HAVE to get a thong bikini, with no sarong! Come back down east again soon, guys. luv ya, mean it!
I got pushed off the wagon <but now I'm back in the saddle again>

I highly recommend that everyone check out Weekend Excursion's new CD "Take Me Home". Rob plays bass on 7 of the 10 tracks and does an outstanding job. Wait til you hear the bass line on "Liberty". It rawks. This really is quite an excellent CD, much different than their other stuff. Richer melodies this time and Sam really shines on vocals.

Yeah, Butterflies and Hurricanes rocks. They have so many songs with this rock retro overtone. It is so neat. My other personal favorites are "Gone in October", "President's War", and "San Jacinto". When I hear those songs, I'm like, DAMN!!! I wish I could write a song like that. It's great stuff. And J-Dog...eventhough your b-day is near, I can still talk smack about Dook. I have to. It's part of my religion... Happy b-day dude.

Altfan -- The song that is played at Parklife's website is only the tip of the iceberg. They have many songs that will blow you away. Especially live. The music is so good, it's kind of hard to describe. Think of a wall of guitars, awesome singing, and great drums all playing along to incredibly brilliant melodies. It has sort of a retro feel, but completely new at the same time if that makes sense. Oh, and by the way, Sammy has the best "rock hair" since Slash. No way he should cut it. And what happened to Duke? Chhhhh..chh..chchchchchhhhh OKE!!

I'll try to find out what time the Greene Street show is on the 30th. As far as Chadleigh, he's been playing with the Bank Walkers when they're close to home for him and my guess is he'll be at the show in High Point on the 29th and Greensboro on the 30th - don't know that for sure, but he's been with them at the other shows in those towns. Haven't heard them do Freedom Town as the BW, but he and Doug still do The Dance. Come on out.

But the police station isn't on church street. and that's a longer way to go. church street can be confusing once you get to downtown because there's a part where it veers off and becomes main street. if you're cmoing on 40, take the exit 145 directions and you'll be there. it's a straight shot there and alot easier.

Burlington, NC USA - Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at 07:38:18 (EST)
Another route: Exit #141Coming on I-40 East turn left at exit ramp light Coming on I-40 West turn right at exit ramp lightStay in farthest right lane (after you turn off either exit ramp). It will eventually turn into a right turning lane...taking you onto Church Street. Follow Church Street and you'll get into a section with a lot of stoplights in a row. You'll want to turn right at the stoplight with the Police Station on the far right corner. Stage 18 is on that road.
Steph <Golden4Dog>
USA - Monday, February 25, 2002 at 22:42:28 (EST)
Hey, T, Stage 18 is on Spring Street. Take exit 145 off I-40 which is Maple Street(towards Myz and I's old house) and go in to downtown. You'll pass over Mebane Street, pass the Post Office, and like 2 more streets. If you get to Church Street, you've gone too far. Take a right onto Spring and it's on your lefthand side. Very small. You should be able to park on the street. If any of this is wrong I appologize. It's been a while since I've been there. Wish I could be there Saturday, but I'll be in FL this weekend for a wedding and to visit my newborn nephew! :-) Hope to catch a show soon! It's been way too long! Love ya!

Didn't see anything on dates, but I emailed to be updated. If you hear of anything, please let me know. Love Ya-Mean It........

This is in reference to the message by Cletus. I personally have been in the space ship in which Rob's body double appears. Granted, I was on drugs at the time...but still. As some of you may know from my Barbara Walters special...i speak to God. God also agrees with Cletus on Rob's hair length. Short is better. Let me give a shout out HOOBY DA DA RAN TE LO That mean Rob looks better with short hair in my language that the Lord and I share.Peace out......and you Do NOT have to leave this world in order to get love.......you just have to cut your hair!Celestia

Hey ya'll!Give a nice round of applause. Cletus AND Inez are back again to represent to all those melon-heads. First and foremost (like that language there, huh?) Cletus, (myself) AND Inez, my good friend, weren't aware that this guestbook was only for those who can speak and write in proper English. (especially at 3:00 am when we posted the previous message) If you will look at the guestbook, you will see that not everyone writes in complete sentences OR makes comments that make sense to everyone who reads it. However, we will put aside our UNC education and do our best to properly inform you and your counterparts of our true intentions. O.K. Now that we got that part settled, let's move on to the matters at hand. We really did meet a girl that night who was interested in carrying Doug's children, but we'll let you guys work that out. We were merely suggesting that Rob get a TRIM....which is only our personal preference. Rob, you don't really have to get your hair cut...you know that, right? So...now that we have properly informed you of our intentions, how about giving another round of applause. Cletus AND Inez are leaving the building. Thanks, Goodnight, and God-bless! P.S. By the way, Inez is an English major and she LIKED my posting. So there! ;-)

Awesome show at Fosters...had a great time hanging out with everybody that showed up. Hey Cletus, be just at little bit more specific as to who you decide to talk about next time. Maybe give that person a chance to stick up for themselves. I think it's funny how some can be so overly general that absolutely nobody knows what they are talking about, and then some try to be so descrete in looking at somebody that they are completely obvious. Oh well, I'm looking forward to the shows in March.

The show last night was a lot of fun! We'll be there when the Bankwalkers play at Fosters again. As for the long hair/short hair thing: I love long hair on men, especially curls. In fact, I really wish Doug hadn't cut his hair. Please don't listen to the wanna-be-pregnant-by-Doug-Jones crackhead, Rob! The curls are great. It's too bad there are so many female names that start with 'S': Stephanie, Sally, Sandy, Selena, Serena, Stupid, Silly, Sicko, Psycho, no wait that's with a 'P'....It's just SO hard to figure out who Cletus is talking about! 8-P

Cletus, please do everyone a favor and get out of the crack barn and get back into school again. This time would you at least learn proper English (sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, spelling, etc.)? I've known more 12 year olds that can compose better paragraphs than your post.
On another note, the show at Foster's was great! I can't wait to catch another "Mo, Austin and Oliver" show soon. Also, Rob do NOT listen to this Cletus "person." Please, I beg you, do NOT get your hair cut!
Peace out!

Doug, a girl that was there tonight wants to have your children...her initials are SJC...and Rob, can you please get a haircut? Thanks. We like the cutting from long to short look awas the best. THe show was good at Fosters. I got a koozie. I'm not mean I'm professional. Tell George and Robbie Wray we said hello. Can Sue have a job at Fosters? Will you work on that for us? For Sue? Please?
