I'm looking to get in touch with Jimbo in order to see if he might be willing to let me use his song Freedom Town in a video slide show I created about my time spent working at a wilderness school for at risk teenage boys. I'm submitting the video for a school web based project and one of the topics of concern for everyone is to not in any way violate copy write laws. So if anyone knows his email and can give it to me, or get in touch with him and have him email me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

It's official, Doc (Amy Bigus, now known as Dr. Amy Beach) is now married and soaking up the sun in Aruba!!! The wedding was spectacular. She was absolutely stunning in her bridal gown and glowing. We love you and it was a pleasure to stand up for you as you tied the knot. "You're look pretty....Ohhh so pretty"......
By the way, those New Yorkers not only know how to put on a wedding but they party till the sun comes up (literally)! I'm glad I arrived w/ my "A-Game" and wasn't "skird" of "SP-----oon------ING" (my roommates rocked the casba, especially the Butler). Congrats Amy and Brian Beach, Rock and I and the rest of the melonpatch kids love you!

Well I must say I could be the newest member of the "melonheads." I discovered Cravin' by accident. Listening to a streaming radio station at work one day about two months ago "come undone" came on and I scrambled to find out who sang this song and how i could get my hands on a few CDs. Well I got my hands on Red Clay Harvest and I must say this band through and through kicks ass. So the story goes on, I traveled down to hang out with one of my frat bros this weekend in Durham, NC and while looking through his cds i notice he has some cravin' himself. I was like "dude you listen to cravin melon" and he was like "yeah man they are somewhat of a local band and local favorite, i WAS into them for a long time." I was like "was?" He then went on to inform me that the band played their final show in 2001. I was sad. But i am here to tell you that there is now a melonhead here in washington dc and I am going to do my goddamn best to make sure that everyone in my life has heard "sweet tea" and everything else this kick ass band has to offer.

Well, not to speak for the "Singin Melon", but lucky for us, he has been back in the Southeast "proper" for sometime. Check out his website at dougjonesonline.com. Check out his new shows with "Gregarious Brady" and Bankwalkers, as well as Harmony Grits. Also, don't forget Rob at parklifeband.com with a new CD due in January, and shows regularly. For those who have not seen them lately, our little Rob has morphed into quite the front man!!! (AND hot as ever!)

A dear fan and friend of Cravin' Melon passed away this past weekend after her battle with Cancer. Anne Pogue.
Here is a post from her daughter on the Lyrics for Life message board.
Jen you are in our prayers.
Hugs,
Cat
*****
This is Jen Pogue again.
First of all, I want to thank all of you for the incredible show of support you've given over the past few weeks, and indeed the past several months. It's meant the world and I hope you know it.
Unfortunately, I have some bad news. I know Iris told the board that I was spending most of my time with Mom recently; she moved to a hospice two days ago and today at 11:45 am she passed away. She wasn't conscious to know she was going, and it was a very comfortable end, or as comfortable an end as one can have in such a situation. She was definitely ready to go and I am glad for her sake that she is gone. I was able to be with her, and I believe that she is here now with me watching every move I make (boy is that a daunting, if encouraging, idea).
Thank you, everyone, for the words of encouragement, the tokens of care, and the kind wishes and prayer. Thank you for the support you gave my mother and the kindness and care you've all shown over the months.
I will continue to come to Hazel shows - I hope to be at the one in Raleigh in October - and I of course will be watching the board.
Thank you again, and I'm sorry my news couldn't be happier.
Sláinte,
Jen

Yeah, I actually caught a few minutes of FOX 50's "Give me the Mike" contest the other day and thought to myself, "I bet 'ol Dick would make a good judge for this". And sure enough, there he was, in the third chair alongside Clay Aiken's mom and some other DJ. It's an interesting show that is very well-produced. But Dick, after listening to the likes of Doug Jones all these years, you gotta go harder on these people :-). Nice job and it's good to see some deserved publicity for Osceola....

Add me to the list of people that had an amazing time Saturday. I wish I hadn't had to book out as soon as the show was early; I got to hang out with a lot of my favorite Melonseeds early, but so many arrived closer to showtime and after!!! I'll make sure to have nothing on my calendar when the next date comes around so I can hangout and maybe stay over.

Sure was good to see all the Melon family last night at Six String. It really was like a family reunion. Doug's new songs are great. I think they are perfect for settings like Six String where storytelling is part of the show. Great stuff. Y'all take care, and don't forget about the Parklife show at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh this Thursday. Rob and Sammy know how to get vintage on your ass, so be ready for the rock.

I have to make a day trip to Charlotte on Saturday but will be back just in time for the show - the question is will I get in? I haven't posted here about the details of my illness, so those who read this won't necessarily know what this means to me, but I had to share it with those of you who do. I had a CT scan yesterday, 8 weeks after I was diagnosed with very advanced, stage IV lung cancer, during which time my only treatment option has been chemotherapy. I had been put into the hospital over the weekend with breathing problems, so I was prepared that news might not be great. My doctor even told me that he expected to have to give me bad news when the test results were back.
BUT IT WAS!!!! My tumor has shrunk to the point that it was almost not there, and the lymph nodes in my chest that have cancer are also shrinking, and they did not find any new 'hits' where cancer had landed anywhere else and started to grow. Even my doctor is astounded at the test results, and said that the person who read the CT scan said that if he had not had my previous film to compare it to and to know what had been there, he might not have even mentioned the tiny spot in his report!!! I hope y'all don't mind, I just had to share my great news!!! I'm still undergoing treatment and not out of the woods, but things looks so much better now! I'm pretty sure now that I will be at the show on May 15th! :D Thank you to all of my friends for their positive thoughts and prayers and I really believe that they have made the difference for me. I hope I'll be seeing y'all soon! :)))

Wait, I thought the May 15th show was at the Six-String Cafe in Cary. Has it changed? :-( The Six-String Cafe is non-smoking, and that would have been a huge help to me, since the Berkeley isn't. I'm still going to try to make it but that might make the difference for me...

Parklife also has a full show with The Clear on the following Thursday May 20 at the Lincoln Theatre. Hey, Doug! So glad to hear you're keeping things rolling! It looks like Keith beat me to it, but I was going to mention the Six String Cafe too. It's an awesome place totally devoted to music. I've played there for open mics and songwriter rounds and it's such a nice setup. I know the Berkeley Cafe (www.berkeleycafe.com) is another hot spot in Raleigh you may want to check out if you haven't already. Hope to hear you soon!! Take it easy!

Doug - here is the website for the listening room in Cary I was telling you about at the last WE show. It's called Six String Cafe and it's an awesome place - very intimate setting. The owner "hosts" most the shows himself, with introductions of the acts, etc., so he is really into the music that he brings there. http://www.sixstringcafe.com/top.html, booking info is on the webpage. Hope this helps.

Hey all!
Just wanted to say that I am ecstatic about Doug's new "musical journey" and I look forward to hearing him sing again. I was at the last Weekend Excursion show a few weeks ago and was thinking how sad it was that I hadn't heard Doug sing in a while. I miss CM shows and Doug's voice. So, if you read this Doug, please try to book some shows in Raleigh, NC and post them on the website. I would love to come out and support whatever you're doing, but Greenville, SC was just too far for me to go here lately.
Hope everyone out there is doing well and staying happy!

Hey y'all, just wanted to let everyone know that I have moved back to Greenville. No, I have not given up, actually the opposite. I have decided that I want to play music again, on the road, in a band. It will be awesome! I think you will probably know and like the people that will eventually be involved. All great players and, what I consider to be wonderful singers and songwriters. Until then, I am playing more in Greenville (every Thurs. night at Brews 8:30pm, every other Wed. at Connellys 9:00 pm, and the Harmony Grits Supper Club every mid-month Wed. 8:30 pm.) My sister Cam has been singing with me at Brews and thats cool. So there, that's what I'm doing in Greenville, but I have my weekends free, and I want to start coming back to some of the towns where we had some good friends. It's not the same, it's more mellow and lyrical, so I'm looking for some intimate, listening rooms. if you can help me with a name of a place you may know, e-mail the website. I'm looking forward to letting y'all hear what we've been doing. It's definitely more mountain infuenced, but now so is the old stuff. Just me and Cam singin' and some crappy guitar playin'. Can't wait to see you again! singin' melon

Hey Steve,
The live one is the way to go. Also "TGP" is their best work. I would say go with the package deal. "Silk Sunflowers" on "TGP" is great, if you like "Blossom" you will love "Silk Sunflowers". You can check ebay for "Where I Wanna Be" I saw one on there a couple of days ago. While I am here I want a Doug update. How is Nashville? I also miss the all of the Mixmasters work, he should bring it back. More demos, live, acoustic, etc... Keith come back to the dark side!!

I became a fan 10 years ago, after hearing a boot leg copy of 'where I wanna be' that a roommate had acquired.
Upon (stupidly) deciding to move to up north, I boldly stole his cassette - which I listened to religiously.
I fell in love with it - Sweet Tea and even more so, Blossom, became my anthem and motivation to "find my way back ..."
I didn't last 6 months in the great white north, before I came back to ... where I wanna be!
Well, by now I've worn out that old cassette and would really like to purchase a CD copy of 'where I wanna be' and/or Red Clay Harvest.
I found the Melon Merchandise order form but it doesn't show either. Are they still in print?
Are they still available?
I'd still like check out the newer stuff, and the live one probably has a renditions of Blossom and Sweet Tea?
But I would truly LOVE to have Where I wanna be and Red Clay Harvest.
-sincerely searching,

Heads up peeps! Parklife, with your fav bass player Rob Clay, is opening up for the final Weekend Excursion concert EVER. It's at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC on Sat. Feb 7. An extra treat is that Melbourne (formerly Rev D) is also playing.
Should be quite a good show with these three bands that have such close ties. If you didn't know, Rob actually played bass on most of WE's last studio album, Take Me Home. Should be a good one, with a packed house.

HEADS UP! MP3.COM has sold their domain name to C-Net. If you have been playing, or enjoying free tunes from MP3.com (Of which Cravin Melon, and several other local bands were members), you might want to download them now. Vivendi Universal (who maintains the songs archived there; they weren't sold as part of the transaction) will be deleting all content on December 3rd.

K folks - in dire need of a Cravin Melon or The Next Move t-shirt...any size! Of course new is preferred... but in good shape will do. Some friends from Spartanburg and Columbia are about to adopt a baby, and as a unique baby gift everyone is contributing something about the couple (via a minimum 6"x6" cotton square) to make a quilt of their life. What better memory than the Cravin Melon/TNM days? Please email me if you have anything you can part with!

Thank GOD! Weekend Excursion has been dying a slow death since they lost the fiddle player. (It shocks me to say that, as he was the absolute most annoying member of the band.) That was a gimmick that set them apart from every other band out there. Without him, they are a watered down Runaway Cab. (And I won't even go into the fact that Sam was good, but Aaron was better.)
This frees up the venues (and the airwaves) for some better bands.

Doug! I don't have to tell you how happy I am to hear your news. I KNOW it can be a difficult decision to completely uproot your life as you've known it, but I know you have the grit to do it. Due to school (finally going to going to get that piece of paper that says that I can run a band,) my traveling days maybe limited, so make sure your touring brings to New England. Besides, I have someone I need to introduce you to. Good luck my friend. I'm sure I'll see you as our circles cross. I miss you and love you always...

That's great news Doug. Keep us all informed on how things are going in Nashville. A road trip seems to be in order I believe. I'm sure Nashville has a "Travel Lodge" that can handle a "Melonhead Reunion" this fall. Good Luck and hope to see you on the road......somewhere!!!!!

Hey y'all! Just wanted everyone in melonland to know that over the last year or so I have added 17 new songs to those that I already had from the melon days, and I'm headed to try my luck in Nashville. I'll be moving in the next month or so, but will continue to come back to Greenville for the Harmony Grits each month. We always did ride the line between country and pop, so there will be elements of both. Anyway, I will need all the support that I know the melonheads are capable of, so we can show them how we've been doing it in the Carolinas all along. It will be different, but I think I can handle it. I look forward to seeing you on the road.

I really miss your VOICE, Doug J. Of course, I still play the CD's and for some reason, sunflowers have become my favorite flowers. Silk ones, mind you! Would think I had died and gone to heaven if I could hear you live one more time. Is that possible? When and Where?
